The level of reading comprehension among students in compulsory secondary education is particularly low, which can be seen in the results of the PISA report and other academic performance tests established by the Government. Many interdisciplinary studies link aspects of music with language learning and reading skills in primary and secondary education and place great emphasis on the great power that music has on learning, socialization, mnemonics and emotional development at these ages. The emotional power of music allows it to create sonic environments that favour reading. A review of these studies indicates that music is an essential aspect in motivating students in compulsory secondary education to read.
