Abstract

The proliferation of misinformation in digital environments presents unprecedented challenges to information literacy education. Traditional fact-based approaches to countering false information have proven insufficient, as they fail to address the experiential and emotional dimensions through which misinformation operates. This paper examines experiential teaching techniques that leverage Marshall McLuhan's media theory to develop more effective pedagogical strategies for combatting fake news. By analyzing methods including WebQuests, journey mapping, card sorting, structured interviewing techniques and inferential learning, this study proposes a framework that engages learners through participatory, multi-sensorial approaches that mirror the experiential nature of misinformation itself.

Author Biography

Ray Gallon, The Transformation Society Prades, France

Ray Gallon is a writer, educator, and communication specialist. He is president and cofounder of the Transformation Society, which develops strategies for humanist digital transformation and organizational learning, and provides evaluation and research in fields of education, communication, and organizational development. He currently teaches at the Universitat de Barcelona and the Université de Strasbourg. His course at Strasbourg, “Information Design for the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” was awarded a certificate of excellence in instructional design, from the Canadian Network for Innovation in Education. His most recent work focuses on applications of Artificial Intelligence for personalized information delivery, personalized learning, and meta-analysis. Earlier, Ray was an award-winning radio producer and journalist, working with broadcasters such as CBC, NPR, France Culture, Radio Netherlands International, Deutsche Welle, Westeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). In the late 80’s, Ray was programme manager of WNYC-FM, New York Public Radio. He is a frequent speaker and keynoter on communication, as well as learning professions and organizations, at conferences and seminars around the world. He has contributed nearly 100 articles and chapters to books, and to professional and scholarly journals.
