Abstract
The research presented in this article aims to determine the factors that affect the implementation of Maker education in schools. It is a research process of interpretative paradigm and qualitative methodology, through a case study of the educational change initiated in a school in Barcelona. The phases of the implementation process of Maker education, the challenges that it faces, the impact of the university education of the Primary Education Degree on teacher training, the characteristics of the Maker training received, and the definition of the organizational and relational structure used in the educational transformation of the center have been investigated. The results obtained detail the phases used for a successful implementation of Maker education, exposing the characteristics of the Maker training received, and evidencing the low impact of the teacher's university education on the use of the methodology. Challenges are detected regarding the educational system, in the materials and spaces of the educational center, in the attitude, experience and training of teachers, as well as in the Maker education itself and in the Fab Labs as an external expert organization in the matter. Furthermore, a possible organizational and relational structure, that promotes and ensures the educational change of the centers, is defined. It is concluded that the analysis obtained exposes the possible factors of the implementation process to be considered for the successful expansion of the use of Maker education in schools, facilitating a reference model for this purpose.
