El shadowing para mejorar la competencia oral de estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera: perspectivas del alumnado

Resumen

En los últimos veinte años, la enseñanza de la pronunciación se ha consolidado en la investigación de segundas lenguas tras muchos años de descuido. Investigadores en este campo se han centrado en examinar técnicas y métodos educativos que pueden garantizar la mejora de la comunicación en una segunda lengua, pero no hay consenso sobre cuáles son más eficaces. En este contexto, el shadowing surge como una posibilidad prometedora. Este estudio presenta un enfoque de esta técnica para mejorar la competencia oral de los estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera y examina sus opiniones tras el tratamiento. La formación se integró en un curso de fonética y fonología en una universidad española y los estudiantes se dividieron en dos grupos según el soporte utilizado para presentar los estímulos (vídeo o audio). El tratamiento consistió en seis sesiones semanales de cincuenta minutos, realizadas en los laboratorios de idiomas como parte de las clases regulares. De los setenta y cuatro estudiantes matriculados, diez se ofrecieron como voluntarios para participar en el proyecto. Los resultados revelan que los estudiantes encontraron el shadowing útil para mejorar su fluidez y precisión verbal, así como su comprensión auditiva. Además, el grupo de audio mostró una visión más positiva de su progreso. Aunque se necesitaría una población más amplia para llegar a conclusiones sólidas, los resultados preliminares sugieren que el shadowing puede mejorar la competencia comunicativa de los estudiantes y ser parte de la caja de herramientas habitual de los profesores.
